Love Sees No Borders Congratulates Senator Feinstein

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 8, 2001 - Love Sees No Borders, the recently established organization focused on raising awareness of the plight of same-sex binational couples and their fight to remain together, today announced that it is extremely pleased by Sen. Diane Feinstein's announcement that she is ready to drop her plan of a six-month moratorium on student visas, which many times are the only avenue same-sex binational couples have to remain together.

"Sen. Feinstein's decision to drop this moratorium provides relief to the same-sex binational couple community," said Leslie Bulbuk of Love Sees No Borders. "The fact that same-sex couples are denied immigration rights forces us to use other, more expensive means, in order to remain together. This moratorium would have meant that people in committed relationships could have faced long and unjustifiable separations."

A coalition of 18 organizations representing colleges, universities and educators of foreign students sent a letter to Feinstein pledging deeper collaboration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service when it came to informing about foreign students who failed to enroll. As a result of this pledge, Feinstein decided not to pursue her proposal calling for a six- month moratorium on foreign student visas, of F-1 visas.
