Love Sees No Borders Decries Vandalism in Its Name
Organization’s Logo Used to Vandalize Home of Virginia Minutemen Organizer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 1, 2006 – Love Sees No Borders announced today its opposition to the vandalism of the home of a Minutemen organizer in Virginia. The organization’s logo was drawn on a sidewalk to protest Minutemen activities in the region, an act of vandalism that the organization strongly opposes.

George Taplin, a resident of Herndon, Va., is an organizer of a local Minutemen group. On Sunday he noticed that the sidewalk of his home was painted with graffiti containing the words “no one is illegal” and the words “Love Sees No Borders” accompanied by an image resembling the organization’s logo.

“We understand the frustration felt by many LGBT immigrants and their families because of the unique challenges they face,” said Leslie Bulbuk, Love Sees No Borders co-founder. “But we do not condone this act of graffiti as a means of opposing an anti-immigrant organization, especially when done in our name and without out approval.”

The Minutemen Project is composed largely of volunteers who patrol the southern border of the United States, seeking to prevent the movement into the country of undocumented people. They are likely to use high-tech hunting gear in their missions, and many in border states are armed. Love Sees No Borders strongly opposes the activities of the Minutemen Project, and considers them anti-American.

“We oppose the Minutemen Project, but we also oppose vandalism,” said Marta Donayre, Love Sees No Borders co-founder. “As LGBT people we despise being attacked by people who disagree with who we are. Likewise, we should not attack those we do not agree with. This is no way to build understanding among all peoples.”

Love Sees No Borders would like to assure the citizens of the town of Herndon that the organization was in no way associated with this act of vandalism.
